HTX
3.4/10 total
The exchange formerly called Huobi, renamed HTX in September 2023 while Justin Sun was acting as an adviser to it. Days after the rename it lost about 5,000 ETH, roughly $8 million, from a hot wallet to a private key compromise, and in November 2023 it was hit again alongside the HECO chain bridge for roughly $86.6 million on the bridge and around $12.5 million more from HTX hot wallets. Sun said losses were covered in both cases and the September attacker returned the funds for a 250 ETH bounty, so no user shortfall was reported, but three private-key failures in one quarter is the thing to weigh.
Scores
Weights are published in the method and applied identically to every entry.
For
- Operating since 2013, one of the longest-running venues still trading
- Covered the 2023 hot wallet losses itself rather than socialising them to users
- The September 2023 attacker returned the full 5,000 ETH in October 2023 for a 250 ETH white-hat payment
- Broad Asian-market altcoin coverage with a documented public API
Against
- Mandatory identity verification before trading
- Base spot fee of 0.2% both sides is the highest in this group before discounts
- Two hot wallet compromises and a bridge compromise in a single quarter of 2023, all traced to private key exposure
- Operating entity and home jurisdiction are not disclosed on a page we could read
- Fully custodial, no verified onion service, no no-JavaScript path
Agent access 5/10
Public REST and WebSocket API inherited from the Huobi stack, but keys need a verified account, so an agent cannot onboard itself.
Reported separately and not counted in the total. It measures what an autonomous agent can do unattended, not whether the service is safe to use.
Fees
0.2% maker / 0.2% taker
Base-tier spot rate for an ordinary user with no HT holdings, per HTX's own fee support page, before volume tiers or the HT deduction. Professional tiers start around 0.0362% maker and 0.0462% taker and require both HT holdings and high volume.
