Curve Finance
7.4/10 total
An AMM built specifically for assets that should trade near a fixed ratio, so stablecoin-to-stablecoin and stETH-to-ETH swaps cost 0.01%-0.04% with very little slippage at size. Nothing is custodied and there is no account. The record includes a serious incident: on 30 July 2023 a reentrancy-lock failure in Vyper compiler versions 0.2.15, 0.2.16 and 0.3.0 let attackers drain several pools, and net losses landed near $52M after whitehats and MEV operators returned funds.
Scores
Weights are published in the method and applied identically to every entry.
For
- Cheapest venue for large stablecoin and pegged-asset swaps, with fees capped at 0.04% on stableswap pools
- No account, no email, no identity verification at any size
- Non-custodial: swap executes from your wallet against the pool, funds are never held by an operator
- Contracts, front end and pool factory are all open source and directly callable
- Operating since January 2020, one of the longest-lived AMMs still in active use
Against
- July 2023 Vyper reentrancy exploit drained multiple pools for roughly $52M net of returns; the bug was in the compiler, not Curve's own logic, but LP funds were still lost
- Every swap is permanently public on-chain and attributable to your wallet
- Cryptoswap pools for volatile pairs use a dynamic fee that can be several times the stableswap rate, and the quote does not break it out clearly
- Front end sees your IP and wallet; no onion service, no no-JavaScript path
- Ethereum mainnet gas can dominate the cost for small swaps, making the low fee tier irrelevant below a few thousand dollars
Agent access 9/10
Pools expose get_dy quoting on-chain and Curve publishes a public REST API plus an open-source Python and JS SDK. An agent with a funded wallet can quote and execute unattended with no account.
Reported separately and not counted in the total. It measures what an autonomous agent can do unattended, not whether the service is safe to use.
Fees
0.01%-0.04% (stableswap)
Stableswap pool fees are set per pool and capped at 0.04%, typically 0.01%-0.04%, which is the cheapest way to move size between stablecoins or between a liquid staking token and its underlying. Cryptoswap pools for uncorrelated assets use a dynamic fee that sits near a mid value in calm markets and rises toward an out value during imbalance, so those cost meaningfully more. In both cases 50% of the fee goes to LPs and 50% is taken as an admin fee for veCRV holders.
