KYC required Custodial exchange

3.8/10 total

Two products under one brand: a retail app that sells you crypto at a quoted price, and a separate Exchange with a conventional maker/taker book. The Exchange is much cheaper for the same trade, so the app's convenience has a real cost. Its worst incident was in January 2022, when 483 accounts had unauthorised withdrawals totalling about $34 million in ETH, BTC and USD; the company published the numbers, reimbursed affected users, and afterwards imposed a 24-hour hold on withdrawals to newly added addresses.

For

  • Exchange base fees of 0.075% both sides are among the lowest here in absolute terms
  • Disclosed the January 2022 breach with specific figures and reimbursed all affected accounts
  • Added a mandatory 24-hour delay on withdrawals to newly registered addresses after that breach
  • Long-running retail operation with fiat rails in many countries

Against

  • Mandatory identity verification before trading
  • The consumer app's spread is much worse than the Exchange's maker/taker fee and is not presented as a fee at all
  • 483 accounts suffered unauthorised withdrawals of about $34 million in January 2022; none of the drained accounts had two-factor authentication enabled
  • Fully custodial, no verified onion service, no no-JavaScript path
  • Heavy consumer marketing spend, which is a reason to read its own numbers rather than its promotion

Agent access 5/10

The Exchange has a documented REST and WebSocket API with issued keys; the retail app does not, so programmatic use means the Exchange product and a verified account.

Reported separately and not counted in the total. It measures what an autonomous agent can do unattended, not whether the service is safe to use.

Fees

0.075% maker / 0.075% taker (Exchange)

Base-tier (Level 1) spot rates on the Crypto.com Exchange before volume tiers, which reach 0.00% maker and 0.05% taker at the top. The consumer app is a different product with a quoted-price spread rather than a maker/taker fee, and it is materially more expensive than the Exchange for the same trade.
