Aerodrome Finance
7.1/10 total
The dominant AMM on Base, built on the Velodrome ve(3,3) design where veAERO lockers vote weekly on which pools receive emissions. For a plain swapper the relevant facts are that it is non-custodial, has no account, and that pool fees are set individually by a governance role up to a 3% ceiling rather than by fixed tiers. Launched August 2023, so it has a shorter record than Curve or Balancer, which is a function of age and not an accusation.
Scores
Weights are published in the method and applied identically to every entry.
For
- No account, no email, no identity verification
- Non-custodial: swap executes from your wallet against the pool contract
- Base gas costs are low enough that small swaps are economic
- Deepest liquidity on Base for both stable pairs and Base-native tokens, including both classic and concentrated (Slipstream) pool types
- Contracts are open source with a published specification, and pools are callable without the hosted front end
Against
- Per-pool fees set by a FeeManager role up to a 3% maximum, so the cost is a governance decision rather than a fixed schedule
- Every trade is permanently public on Base and attributable to your wallet
- Live only since August 2023, so the track record is thin by construction compared with 2020-era AMMs
- Single-chain: Base only, and bridging in and out of Base is a separate trust decision
- Front end sees your IP and wallet; no onion service, no no-JavaScript path
Agent access 8/10
Fully on-chain and callable from a funded wallet, with an open-source contract set and on-chain Sugar helper contracts for pool discovery. There is no official hosted quoting API, so an agent must read pool state or use a third-party aggregator.
Reported separately and not counted in the total. It measures what an autonomous agent can do unattended, not whether the service is safe to use.
Fees
per-pool, capped at 3%
Swap fees are set per pool by a FeeManager role rather than fixed by pool type, with a hard maximum of 3% enforced by the factory. Stable (sAMM) pools are typically around 0.05% and volatile (vAMM) pools around 0.3%; Slipstream concentrated pools use tick-spacing-based defaults that are also adjustable. Because fees are governance-adjustable per pool, check the quote rather than assuming a tier.
